Cisco Wireless LAN Advanced Topics v2.0

This group of lab exercises is associated with the Cisco Wireless LAN Advanced Topics (CWLAT) v2.0 course.

In the first lab, you will create a basic configuration for the WLAN controller. Next, you proceed with the installation of the Cisco Secure Services Client on a computer with a supported operating system. In the third lab you learn other techniques for deploying Access Points (AP) across remote networks in the enterprise. The lab that follows shows you how to use the Wireless Control System (WCS) to configure the controller and to perform a number of administrative functions on the deployed wireless network system and to create reports based on the data that has been collected in its database or from current measurements. The security of your wireless network can be monitored through WCS as well. This lab also shows the capabilities within WCS to monitor rogue APs, to alert exclusion issues, and track Intrusion Detection System (IDS) occurrences. At the end of this activity you will learn the capabilities available within WCS to mitigate rogue APs.

Objectives

Upon finishing this set of exercises, you will be able to:
Describe detailed technical features, functions and benefits of the WLAN controller-based architecture

  • Setup Cisco WCS to provide the information needed to configure a WLAN using Cisco WCS
  • Manage the WLAN controller-based network with the Cisco WCS
  • Troubleshoot and maintain a controller-based WLAN network
  • Apply advanced applications to controller-based WLAN networks
  • Administer security so that the controller-based WLAN network is safe from attack

Importance

This lab is of utmost importance to all engineers involved in advanced WLAN solutions, as well as to the individuals seeking Cisco Advanced Wireless LAN Design Specialist and Cisco Advanced Wireless LAN Field Specialist designations.

Target Audience

The Cisco Wireless LAN Fundamentals Course is addressed to Internal Cisco and Channel External SE’s and FE’s working in the wireless field who possess wireless basics and seek to add more advanced concepts to their knowledge.

  • The secondary audience for this course includes: Network Administrator, Network Engineers, Network Managers and technical sales personnel, who need to know how to sell, design, install and support wireless local area networking.

    Prerequisite Knowledge

    Basic computer literacy

  • Knowledge of fundamental networking components and terminology
  • Knowledge of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model
  • Knowledge of basic LAN components and functions
