Optimizing Converged Cisco Networks v1.0
This set of lab exercises (lab bundle) contains all the exercises associated with the Optimizing Converged Cisco Networks (ONT) 1.0 course. The lab exercises address both basic and advanced aspects of VoIP, QoS, and WLAN.
Content
This set of lab exercises contains the following exercises:
- Setting Up and Initializing the ONT Lab
- Placing and Examining VoIP Calls
- Introducing MQC and the SDM QoS Wizard
- Configuring NBAR
- Configuring FIFO and WFQ Queuing Mechanisms
- Configuring the LLQ Queuing Mechanism
- Configuring Class-Based Header Compression
- Configuring LFI
- Configuring QoS Preclassify
- Configuring QoS with Cisco AutoQoS
- Using MQC to Tune QoS Mechanisms Configured with Cisco AutoQoS
- Troubleshooting Converged Networks
- Setting Up the Wireless LAN Controller
- Configuring Basic Security Configuration Using WPA-PSK
- Configuring Advanced Security Using LEAP Server-Based Authentication
- Configuring Cisco WCS for WLANs
Objectives
Upon finishing this set of exercises, you will be able to:
Configure your pod routers for basic network connectivity
- Verify network connectivity using the Cisco IOS ping commands
- Configure CIPC, a software phone application that is installed on your workstation to register with CME, a call agent that runs on a Cisco IOS router.
- Place a call from your workstation to another pod using CIPC with the default codec (G.711), display voice call statistics on the CIPC screen and obtain network and call information by browsing to the web server of CIPC as well as capture RTP packets and analyze them using Ethereal, a network protocol analyzer software.
- Reconfigure CIPC to register with CME using a different device name which is configured for a different codec (G.729).
- Place a call from your workstation to another pod using CIPC with the G.729 codec and use the same tools that you used on the previous call to note the differences caused by the codec change.
- Connect to your assign equipment and configure the basic MQC components.
- Launch SDM QoS wizard
- Discover network applications and traffic using NBAR protocol discovery
- Configure classification of discovered applications using NBAR classification
- Configure class-based marking
- Configure FIFO queuing on Cisco routers
- Configure WFQ queuing on Cisco routers
- Interpret output of show interface command to monitor and verify the FIFO and WFQ operation on the serial lines
- Configure LLQ on a Cisco router to provide bandwidth guarantees
- Use the proper show commands to monitor and verify the LLQ
- Use Cisco IOS monitoring commands and network connectivity tools (ping) to gather network response time data
- Configure class-based RTP header compression
- Monitor the operation of class-based RTP header compression
- Configure LFI on PPP WAN links
- Monitor the operation of link fragmentation and interleaving
- Configure QoS preclassify on a Cisco IOS router using a Generic Route Encapsulation (GRE) tunnel
- Monitor QoS preclassify configurations
- Activate the AutoQoS Discovery on your pod router to perform traffic analysis on low bandwidth PPP serial interface
- Enable the AutoQoS for Enterprise feature on your pod router low bandwidth PPP serial interface
- Use Cisco IOS monitoring commands and network connectivity tools (ping) to gather network response time data
- Configure MQC classification
- Configure class-based marking
- Layer 1 and Layer 2 troubleshooting
- IP routing
- QoS troubleshooting
- View CLI and GUI configuration options
- Input basic configuration information using CLI
- Configure WLC using GUI
- Configure WPA-PSK on WLC
- Monitor your configuration
- Configure LEAP server-based authentication on WLC
- Monitor your configuration
- Login to the WCS
- Configure the WCS and check the status
Importance
This lab bundle is highly recommended for candidates for Cisco CCNP®, CCDP®, CCIP®, CCIE® Routing and Switching, and CCIE® Communications and Services certifications. The lab bundle is also recommended to students who have attended the ONT course in the past and would like to improve or refresh their configuration and troubleshooting skills.
Target Audience
This exercise is highly recommended for network administrators responsible for optimizing converged medium-to-large business networks.
Prerequisite Knowledge
To successfully complete this exercise, you need basic knowledge of QoS concepts and Cisco IOS features related to QoS. This knowledge is best gained by attending the Optimizing Converged Cisco Networks (ONT) v1.0 course.
