Improve BGP Convergence v1.0

The activity demonstrates how you can improve the convergence time of a BGP-based network using BGP Support for Fast Peering Deactivation (introduced in IOS release 12.3T) and using Selective Address Tracking for BGP Fast Session Deactivation, which was introduced in IOS release 12.4(4)T.

You will observe BGP convergence after a link failure between the Ext and Edge routers, and between the Edge and Core routers.

Objectives

Upon finishing this exercise, you will be able to:
Optimize BGP session timers;

  • Improve the BGP convergence in your network using fast peering deactivation feature;
  • Configure fast peering deactivation on IBGP and EBGP sessions;
  • Configure selective fast peering deactivation in networks that use summary or default routes.
